Jia Ziyi, a tennis player from Baotou, defeated her rival from Ordos with a score of 6-3 on Aug 20, during a tennis match held as part of the 14 Inner Mongolia Sports Meeting, adding one more gold to Baotou city’s medal tally, reports Baotou Daily.
So far, Baotou has won seven gold medals in tennis competitions at the contest, ranking first among cities and leagues in the autonomous region.
It is the best result Baotou has ever achieved in the autonomous region-level sports meeting.
Speaking during an interview, Jia Ziyi said that her tennis improved as the tournament went on.
The competition taught me the value of struggle and persistence in meeting my goals, Jia said.
Tennis had a relatively late start in Baotou, yet the sport has a solid foundation in the city, and is becoming more popular.
There are many participants and talented players to choose from, with this group of 35 selected from over 1,000 children in Baotou, said Li Weigang, coach of Baotou tennis team.
